My Students

My students absolutely love learning when they are provided with choices, highly engaging books, and appropriate technology. Both their interest in reading and their reading comprehension skills are highest when they have books, tools, and projects that grab their attention and refuse to let go of it!

My Project

Grand Theft Horse is a graphic novel by Gregory Neri that tells the incredible, true story of his cousin, Gail who challenged the horse racing world for the sake of an extraordinary horse. I know my students would be instantly swept up in the engaging story and beautiful images that compose this book. Many of my students have never before read a graphic novel, and I'd like to expose them to the genre.

My goal is to create life-long readers, and I feel strongly that reading a graphic novel about horse racing in a rural community with lots of horse owners, would be a sure way to reinvigorate a passion for reading that many of my teenage students have lost.
