Grammar Gurus In Training!

My students need materials, such as markers, papers and boards, that will provide them with motivational and interactive language conventions (grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization).

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I tell my students daily, "I expect it of you because the world expects it of you." The "it" I and the world expect of them is coherent writing, which includes standard and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. Dry stuff, without a doubt, but necessary.

My students are bright, curious teenagers who, despite some incredibly daunting life conditions, come to school everyday with faith that an education will improve their lives.

Many of these young people are the first members of their families to attend high school and come from economically strained households. I promise my students that if "they stick with me," I will help them to be seen by the world as educated people. We all know educated people are expected to have subject-verb agreement and to know the difference between "your" and "you're." Unfortunately, somewhere along the line my students were not held accountable for these basic language conventions. I intend to turn the tide for them.

My Project

Future Grammar Gurus will begin their spring training with the materials I have selected! I have requested materials directly related to teaching and practicing language conventions. The individual student whiteboards and whiteboard markers are not only motivational (students love them!), but they also provide a quick check to ensure the students are correctly applying the skill. I am particularly excited about the interactive resources (the workbooks and CD)as I believe they, too, will motivate students and bring the concepts to life. The highlighters will be used when students complete final drafts of compositions - they will highlight their correct usage of concepts recently taught. The markers and colored paper will be used for "foldables" and other hands-on grammar and usage activities.

You, my potential donors, are the "world" who will expect my students to have these skills in place when they leave our hallowed halls.

They have many odds stacked against them; I hope you are able to help my students to one day show the world that they, too, are educated people and can take their rightful place among the rest of us.
