My students are bright, curious teenagers who, despite some incredibly daunting life conditions, come to school everyday with faith that an education will improve their lives. Many of these young people are the first members of their families to attend high school and come from economically strained households. I promise my students that if "they stick with me," I will help them to be seen by the world as educated people. We all know educated people are expected to have subject-verb agreement and to know the difference between "your" and "you're." Unfortunately, somewhere along the line my students were not held accountable for these basic language conventions. I intend to turn the tide for them.
