Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach English to high school students in a high-poverty, high-need, urban school district.

All of my students read for the 1st 15 minutes of class every single day and from books of their choice. Therefore students need to have books that they like to read.

I am requesting a set of high interest books that students themselves have suggested that I purchase, because I have found that students who read from a book of their choice every day increase their reading levels by multiple grade levels in just one school year.

I have witnessed how instilling the habit of regular reading in students who traditionally say that they "never read" can change their lives forever. I also know that nothing will better prepare my student for college than a habit of reading every single day.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
