This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The immersive nature of GoPros makes them a fantastic tool for engaging my new students in this country who are not only immigrants but also English language learners (ELLs) in elementary school. My immigrant students will benefit immensely from having a GoPro camera available to use.

We will use it for Show and Tell, Scavenger Hunts, silent movies, and virtual tours.

Students will take turns mounting the GoPro and filming something interesting they brought to class, and they will present their video using new vocabulary related to the object. I will create a list of vocabulary words with pictures. Students race around the schoolyard or classroom with the GoPro, filming each item they find. Once we are back in class, they will present their findings and use the new words in sentences.

Students will use the GoPro camera to film a short silent movie around a specific theme or story. Once we're in class, they will add narration and sound effects using their newfound vocabulary. One of my favorite plans for using the camera is the virtual tour. Students will use the GoPro to film a virtual tour of the school, playground, or another familiar location. They can then narrate the tour in English, highlighting key places and activities.
