My Students

Our school has a little more than 1/3 of our population eligible for free and reduced-priced lunches. "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand," Confucius said, and hands-on manipulation is the same way that my first graders acquire concepts. My students are inquisitive, always excited and ready to engage in new activities and learning experiences, and thrive on almost anything hands-on.

Hands-on manipulation solidifies abstract learning into concrete learning!

Showing and sharing your learning is important in my classroom and something we have done for years. I try to use and incorporate materials, resources, and activities that allow my students to "show what they know".

My Project

Imagine for a moment immersing students in the ultimate learning environment for a Science, Math or Social Studies lesson…What does it look like? How can students interact with the environment? How can this environment better engage students and help them form a deeper understanding of the content? Can you imagine the possibilities of virtual learning environments and transporting students to places they could never go?

Google Expeditions, (Virtual Reality), has the STEM power to transform the future of learning.

By giving students an interactive, three-dimensional, STEM learning environment, Teachers have the potential to reach learners in ways previously never conceived. Expeditions enable teachers to take students on virtual trips to places like museums, underwater explorations, and outer space, for example.

Google Expedition trips are collections of virtual reality panoramas — 360° panoramas and 3D images — complete with details, points of interest, and questions that make them easy to integrate into existing curriculum. Expeditions are bringing even more immersive learning experiences to classrooms and bringing STEM to life!
