This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My classroom is an Emotional Disturbance Special Day Class. The students have challenging behaviors and priority of the class is to manage behaviors first, then academics. Most of the students are with me all day long for Math, Science, History, Language Arts, and English.

My students are great kids that need to grow socially, emotionally, academically and need daily support.

These middle schoolers have a hard time staying focused, controlling their emotions and foul language is an uphill battle. My focus with my students is to help them grow socially/emotionally so they can interact in a professional setting. Earning their respect, creating rules and regulations for the classroom is a yearly battle. I want to create an environment in my classroom that is welcoming to my students. I want them to know this is a safe place, a place where they can be themselves but work on a creating a better version of themselves to conduct themselves appropriately.

The items I have requested will allow to create a better setting in my classroom. I want them to know I care for them and I am here for them. The bean bags will create a calming area for them to enjoy a break from their school work. The chairs are a huge upgrade from what they currently have, giving them comfort and ability to move around. The snacks and treats are used as motivation and will be earned for good behavior and completing assignments.
