Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first and second-grade groups do units on plants. This includes learning about the parts of a plant, its life cycles, and observing growth. I have chosen 8 mini hydroponic gardens so that each of my first-grade classes can have a garden to watch grow and harvest. I have also selected a self-sustaining ecosystem that allows students to see how recycled fish waste provides nutrients to the plants, which then provides a clean habitat.

My goal for this project is to have a hands-on unit about plants and to continue to provide enriching STEM lessons.

Working at a Title I school, most of my students are from low-income housing families and don't have the opportunities to be able to immerse themselves into gardening and fresh herbs/vegetables. I am always striving to provide the best possible education for my STEM students.
