it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how exciting it was to listen to a good storyteller? A listening center will allow my students to hear quality stories everyday!
I teach at a first year charter school trying to survive with very little funding.
Our students are amazingly resilient human beings. They work hard and enjoy school. Our school is predominately African-American students. Most families work several jobs, have a one parent household, and/or several children to care for. Our staff works diligently to ensure that each child receives what he or she needs to be successful and feel confident.
My Project
A listening center will serve two main purposes. First, it will give my students an opportunity to hear what a proficient reader sounds like. Children need to hear good intonation in order to learn how to read fluently and with expression. Second, the listening center will allow me time to work in small, guided reading groups. Guided reading helps me ensure that every student receives the instruction necessary to be a successful reader.
