I am a teacher at a Title I school in Walkertown, NC. Many of my students classify in the lower socioeconomic demographics within our community and come from a spectrum of backgrounds and diverse populations. A large population of students do not have the basic hygiene supplies that they need to be clean on a daily basis. Having the basics like deodorant or toothbrushes in my classroom allows the students to have easy access to what they need to stay clean and fresh.
I want to make sure that my kids have the basic hygiene items that they need in order to build good habits and to feel confident and clean while at school.
Amid the many things going on in this important season of life, hygiene and cleanliness is often overlooked, and students arrive at school without a shower, deodorant, or even clean clothing. Having these items readily available with a safe, trusted teacher helps teens practice good grooming and freshen up without being ashamed or bullied by their peers. Many diseases and conditions can be prevented or controlled through appropriate personal hygiene, but the most important thing is the confidence boost it gives to teen students.
