Good Hygiene Improves Self Esteem

My Project

I teach middle school students in a self-contained, special education, behavioral program. We are a Title 1 school with many families struggling to meet their basic needs. Several of my students' families are homeless.

This school year, I have noticed about half of my students struggle with basic hygiene.

Furthermore, their hygiene issues are negatively affecting their relationships with their peers. Middle schoolers can be mean and will quickly point out the student who smells less than desirable or has dirty teeth.

My project will provide basic hygiene and grooming essentials such as shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, combs, and brushes. I am hoping to improve student hygiene which will increase their self-esteem and peer relationships.
