My students need five stools and three cushions for alternative seating.
This project expired on December 8, 2018.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Students who benefit from this project are coming from an urban environment into a first grade classroom where they need high engagement to keep them vested in education. Opportunities and experiences are limited with this population outside of the school environment so I am working to fill that gap for them as we are learning in the classroom.
The school in which I teach is in a high poverty school in Durham, NC and is an arts magnet where we are challenged to instruct the curriculum while layering art within it.
The school is 70% free and reduced lunch and 30% of students are second language learners.
These stools will be one option in my room for students as they have an opportunity to find the perfect seat that provides engagement for their learning. Having a variety of options will give them choice as to what works for them. Studies show that this type of environment for young minds is most conducive to learning. Providing students with the cushion will allow them a sensory experience that they would not normally get in a standard chair offered in the school environment. This experience could be the key for increased engagement and focus for optimal learning. Please help provide student with the best educational adventure.
