I like to believe that my students enjoy coming to school each day. I try to show them that learning can be fun, and we all work together to make best with what we have. I feel that my students are little innovators, and try to express to them that they deserve to learn, and should push themselves.
My students really inspire me to be the best that I possibly can be.
On an average day, many of my students go above and beyond what is asked to meet their individual goals. It amazes me how much they can do with limited resources, how little they complain, and how they have learned to adapt. It is not easy keeping education balanced when barriers prevent students from equal opportunities, but I feel that my students have learned to appreciate all that they do have. My 28 5th graders have imaginations beyond belief, and creative abilities that deserve to be pushed to their limits. Their active minds crave new activities, adventures, and modern amenities. They beg me to use technology in the class like it is a privilege. I don't feel it should be that way. I feel that educational technology is a necessity.
My Project
Adding additional technological resources to our classroom would bring my class to the next level. The students will now have the world at their fingertips in a matter of seconds without having to wait 45 minutes for a computer to start up and spinning rainbows to disappear. Students will now be able to work in centers using apps, visit a museum on a virtual field trip, or even further their research on a topic that they learned in class. The creative abilities of the children will be able to be pushed to a level they never imagined. Students can now change their ideas into digital stories, collaborate on discussion boards, and even work to manage their own website. It makes me excited just thinking about the differentiated activities that would help push the children to be successful learners in the 21st century. The students will now be given an opportunity to prepare for their future, and I will have additional opportunities to use my Educational Technology Degree to its potential.
Some of the computers in my class may be older then the children themselves.
Funding for this project could really be gold at the end of our spinning rainbows. The children will be given increased opportunities to receive the education they deserve, with the resources they deserve. I really feel that projects like this can really boost the confidence of children that sometimes need a little motivational push. I can not even imagine the excitement and ideas that these resources would bring to us.
