My little thinkers come from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. Each student I am fortunate enough to teach struggles in multiple content areas as a result of a diagnosed disability - ranging from speech impairments to Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD. Moreover, close to 90% of these very same students are raised in households significantly below the national poverty line - which impacts their ability feel secure in and out of school. Despite such obstacles, they continue to amaze me with their hard work, determination, and grit.
My students encounter seemingly insurmountable challenges each day, which they embrace with resilience and fortitude.
They walk through the door of my classroom carrying with them the hopes of developing positive, effective skills and strategies that will foster success. Such skills will further enable them thrive in school and to become community members which contribute to a 21st century society. I am inspired by them each and every moment I am fortunate enough to share with them.
Through the hard work of dedicated teachers, charitable community members, and emboldened parents, we now have every confidence that we will become an "A"- rated to match our rockin' school culture.
Working with a varied group of students with special needs has made me realize that not all students learn in the same manner to to the same degree given standard learning materials.
Many of my students do not have access to digital content at home - which means the burden falls on their educational experiences in school in order for them to gain 21st century skills.
Please consider making a 100% matched donation to my project today so my very special students can gain the skills they need to experience success in school and explore digital resources on their own terms.
