I teach in a beautifully diverse classroom. Many have experienced, or are experiencing, early life challenges, but all exhibit an inspiring resilience, a spunky energy for life and an admirable zeal for learning. They genuinely love to be at school, and while there they demonstrate and share a myriad of gifts, whether they be academic, social, athletic, artistic, or otherwise. They are developing leaders, athletes, artists, business owners, and community members.
My students are creative, vibrant, tech-savvy, and love to engage with their curriculum content.
Furthermore, they love to share with others what they have learned. This year, my students have collaboratively created a hands-on, entertaining science video, positively participated in a pilot-program girls' club, crafted artwork masterpieces alongside science and social studies, incorporated teamwork and productive social skills into the classroom atmosphere, and explored the unique skill set that each child brings to the community environment. They thoroughly appreciate the opportunities and resources they are provided when they come to the classroom each day.
My Project
Aa a Title 1 school, iPad devices are provided as a wonderful learning tool to each student. Accessible headphones to facilitate engagement and interactive learning would brilliantly increase the technology's usefulness to each student. The use of headphones would specifically allow the students the option to listen to reading while following along with the words and pages on their device screen. In addition to group, guided, and one-on-one reading time with the teacher, this is useful independent learning time for the developing readers in my classroom. Many of my students reside in a low-income, single-parent home or are in the care of a nonparent guardian, with multiple children in the home. As a first-year public school teacher with limited classroom tools, I would like to provide this resource to my 14 students without placing the burden of purchase onto the families.
A quiet space, free of the noise of neighbors can positively and monumentally impact the potential for a child's learning, retention, and motivation.
Many of the students in my classroom are EC (Exceptional Children). Children who are easily stimulated and affected by their surroundings would largely benefit from having regular access to headphones. I am passionate about offering them every opportunity available to help them become successful readers and learners in the classroom today, so that they may become wildly successful in each of their futures and within their communities.
