My students need 14 different books promoting environmental awareness, including "Generation Green: The Ultimate Teen Guide to Living an Eco-Friendly Life".
I am currently the technology and AIS (Academic Intervention Services) teacher for a title 1 public school in NY. I teach grades k-5. Many of our children come from low income families and can not afford to buy supplies needed for the school year.
Since I teach grades K-5 it is very hard to buy supplies and resources to accommodate all grades. Unfortunately supplies can add up very quickly, especially when you teach 6 different grade levels, and pull out children with learning disabilities for academic intervention. With extreme budget cuts teachers are not getting enough resources to effectively run a classroom.
My theme this year is to educate children on ways we can Love and Save our Planet. Going Green is a major issue I am trying to incorporate in my school. Even though we recycle in NY many of the children don't understand why we recycle. The books I have ordered will help me teach these children why we need to save our planet, and have many different projects I can incorporate in my lessons so that as a school we can Go Green. I am hoping that my teachings will not only help the students I teach, but other teachers and staff, as well as parents and the community, in an effort to become more Eco-friendly.
Your help will ensure that my students have resources to learn about Going Green, and give us projects which we can bring into the community, to create a cleaner and healthier Earth.
