My students need 10 Bananagrams games for a fun and effective way to practice spelling patterns.
Can spelling practice be both fun and effective? With the right materials it can!
My students are a wonderfully diverse and energetic group of people.
They want to do things well and spelling words correctly is one aspect of writing that interests them. We are a school community that includes students and families who are not only from all walks of life, but from many places around the globe!
We are studying spelling by using root words, then building on them with prefixes and suffixes. Using Bananagrams tiles to build the words from the roots will give my students a hands-on way to see how the parts of the word affect the whole! Currently, we are analyzing words on paper by breaking down roots, suffixes and prefixes in writing. This is a good place to start, but being able to manipulate letter tiles will help all learners see how much fun word study can be. It will also help them to figure out the meaning of unknown, complicated words as they read and write.
Along with spelling studies, these Bananagrams games will help with learning new vocabulary words, finding ways that words connect with one another, and enjoying the process of "word play." In short, these games will engage my students in activities that could transform a worksheet activity into a lively, interactive, memorable learning experience!
All students crave success, especially in writing.
Often it is the fear and frustration of misspelling words that stops their bright ideas from coming across in their work. The more expertise they gain with words, the more confident they will be in expressing themselves. These Bananagram games will help to make that happen!
