This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Transforming the classroom into a captivating Glow Room environment for 2nd and 3rd graders offers a unique and engaging way to enhance their learning experience. The use of glowing elements such as neon duckies, glow sticks, glow ring toss and black lights creates a visually stimulating atmosphere that captures the students' attention and ignites their curiosity. The radiant ambiance fosters a sense of excitement and wonder, setting the stage for a dynamic learning environment that motivates and energizes young minds.
The Glow Room transformation not only appeals to the natural curiosity of children but also provides various opportunities for hands-on, interactive learning.
Through activities like glow ring toss and the use of neon duckies under black lights, students can actively participate in experiential learning experiences that promote critical thinking, problem-solving , and teamwork. This sensory-rich environment stimulates different learning modalities, catering to diverse learners and ultimately helping 2nd and 3rd graders retain information more effectively while having a memorable enjoyable educational experience.
Students from low socio-economic backgrounds and English Language Learners are coming to school with limited background knowledge and vocabulary necessary to engage with grade level content at a rigorous level. When analyzing our reading assessment data, vocabulary continues to be our lowest scoring domain. Our students need to be immersed in real-world experiences to build background knowledge and vocabulary. Room transformations allow students to make real-world connections due to context. English Language Learners experience accelerated language acquisition when immersed with comprehensible input, which is defined as any written or spoken message that is understandable to a language learner because of context.
A room transformation places students within the context of the learning, and provides the bridge for low SES and ELL students to access and deepen understanding of learning standards.
