Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in an economically disadvantaged, predominately Spanish speaking community, I see my students face an abundance of challenges on a day to day basis. My goal is to provide my students with adequate learning materials so that they too can receive the proper education that everyone deserves, regardless of where they live.

My students are brilliant, funny, hard workers, but are often given the short end of the stick.

I teach a multitude of different learners, from Special Education to Pre-AP and every child in between. Each of my students presents their own challenges and personalities and they are welcome no matter what. Over 75% of my students are Hispanic/Latino and roughly 20% are Black. Within our classroom, we strive to become global citizens by reading a plethora of different texts from people all over the world and by being aware of world conflicts and politics to develop our own voices.

My Project

The tablets that I am requesting will allow my students to have access to the world around them and allow them to read books, journals, articles and much more, that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to. Because our school has very limited resources, my students are not able to read new, more relative texts that they could connect to and use to develop an appreciation for reading.

These tablets will broaden my students horizons and introduce them to literature in a way that is exciting and innovative.

Because I teach a wide spectrum of students, in terms of learning capabilities, these materials will help every student to read and learn in a manner that is best for them.
