My Project

My students have recently been introduced to many different forms of art. Ceramics has easily become one they are most proud of in its completion. However, not every project created is able to be finished for a functional or long lasting purpose.

Glaze is a key material for the art of ceramics each student should experience.

With glaze, a clay project is coated and protected in glass material that makes the art piece waterproof, perfectly glossy and stronger for having the protection of a second layer of strength for a long lasting work of art their parents can keep on their shelf your many years to come.

One main example is my second grade students enjoy making their very own hot chocolate cup out of clay! Without glaze that would not be possible as it would not be safe to drink out of. As for other grades such as Kindergarten and first they will get an opportunity to use the glaze medium for their first pinch pot and/or their first sculpture.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
