This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that my students are so excited about specific books and subjects that they check back in with me each week, even though I remind them that I am waiting for additional funding. Their minds cannot conform to the very limited budgets and much-appreciated donations. They are much more optimistic and hopeful than me, but this pushes me to reach out more to all of you to make their dreams a reality.

I know, even as an adult, I am still in awe of libraries and all that they make possible, and I love to see the students do happy dances and shout for joy over new books, although I do eventually acknowledge that we have to make sure we don't physically endanger anyone else with our enthusiasm.

Thank you to all of you who have helped to make this possible. If you are able to, please continue to help us in this amazing work that supports their personal love of reading for pleasure, and increases their literacy, even when they have no idea of this impact. This time around, there is a much greater emphasis on science books, specifically animal books (they still cannot get enough), bilingual picture books, chapter and graphic novels in Spanish, and tactile books (many of you might be surprised by how many students, even those in the second grade, are still mesmerized by these books).
