Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom centers around the development of critical thinking and reading comprehension skills. Students engage in close readings of complex text and talk with each other about their insights and reactions.
My students are 10th graders who come from all over the city to our global studies magnet program.
They are ambitious and goal-oriented in their academics. The elementary and middle school education of my students varies widely; some come prepared for high school work, but many have experienced gaps in their learning that affects their success at the high school level.
My Project
My students are learning about persuasive strategies that writers and communicators use to engage an audience and communicate a message effectively.
These posterboards, markers, and stencils from Blick will allow my students to implement what they have learned about persuasion in Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about the environmental issue of their choice.
Students will work in groups of 3-4 to identify an important environmental issue, research the particulars of the problem and possible solutions, and design a poster that draws attention to the issue and proposes solutions.
Students will present and display finished posters to the campus community to promote Earth Day.
