My Project

This has been a goal of mine to acquire books for my students. This project will help gain books for our classroom library, but also provide books for students to keep at home for their own personal libraries. The goal of this project is to increase the students' overall literacy experience. I want to increase the students' overall fluency and comprehension by being able to offer a wide selection of texts for my second graders.

This project offers texts about famous individuals, chapter books, books about animals, STEM, and more!

The selection will offer my class more diversity and multicultural texts than I currently have available for them. Because we are a Title I school, funds are often limited for various resources. To be able to provide the books in the classroom library is very important to me. There's no greater gift than sharing the love of reading with children. These stories would be a wonderful addition to the classroom and it would be a gift that would keep on giving for many years to come. Whether the texts are fictional or non-fictional, the students are going to find something that piques their interests, while gaining knowledge in so many different subject and content areas, such as science, and historical topics, as well as fantasy and so many others! It's crucial for kids to have reading materials at home, and this would allow them to build their personal libraries. During the pandemic and virtual learning, it became alarmingly clear how much social emotional education needs to be focused on in the classroom. It was a concern before Covid, but even more so now. We are still teaching through Covid, but I am making sure that all of my students needs are met- not just academic ones.
