Giving My Students a Little Light in the Dark Days

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Coming to school is a safe haven for our students on campus. A majority of my students are Hispanic or Latino, in which 95% of the class is economically disadvantaged and qualify for free lunch. Many of my students have faced hardships that no 10-year-old child should ever face. Despite those hardships, they come to school with a smile on their face. Now my student do not have a safe haven where they can get meals and love from the staff members at our school.
Many of my students’ families rent out a bedroom and all live in the bedroom together.
Most of my students do not have a lot. They have clothes and some basic toys. I want to give my students a classroom that students are excited to walk into where they have supplies to be successful and stay healthy. I am looking to fund projects that will help my students during this pandemic. Thank you for all your support!
My Project
Can you imagine being at home 24/7 right now with nothing to do? I know for me I have spent a lot of money on arts and crafts and games for my family. My classroom students do not have the means to do that. When conferencing with my class, I asked what they are doing for fun. Most of them stayed quiet. I asked why they were so quiet, then they shared they are very bored at home.
I would love to drop off a little something to each of my students that they can use during their quarantine time.
I have picked out games, arts and crafts and science projects for the kids in my class. I think they would LOVE to have something to do at home. It would make me so happy to drop off an activity and some pencils at each one of my students' houses! Please help me light up my students' lives with a little joy!
