My Project

Materials will make a difference in the learning of the students because it will enhance the weekly instruction provided to students in the area of work-based learning. The materials requested will create more realistic experiences for students by providing uniforms (shirts/visors/bags). In addition, it will help expand instructional opportunities by allowing staff to expand instruction on other areas such as: activities of daily living (i.e.-completing laundry, folding, etc.). The tote bags will help enrich current instructional practices in the area of self-management by teaching students to manage their belongings/materials. Materials will be used to facilitate the delivery of community experiences and transition activities for students. The school team/students will maintain these items by washing uniforms and managing tote bags weekly.

The goal of this project is to increase independence for students and enhance current instruction in the area of work-based learning skills.

Students are learning various skills across domains. They participate in work-based learning experiences in the community and have the opportunity to generalize these skills across settings. Students work on having appropriate appearance in the community, work on activities of daily living (i.e-washing uniforms, dusting, cleaning, etc.). In addition, self-management skills are addressed by students managing his/her materials, Students practice following a checklists/schedules to prepare for work and develop routines. Several career clusters are also targeted such as: Hospitality, Food Service, & Custodial. Addressing multiple clusters will help the team evaluate student strengths/interests.

Students are special because they access autism services in a comprehensive school building with opportunities to be with general education peers. Students have their unique abilities and strengths which staff focus on to increase independence in all areas to help prepare them for the transition to adulthood.
