My Students
Many of my students come from a wide variety of places to call America home. Most are English language learners from Bangladesh and Yemen. Most are also American Special Education students who are well below their level. All students have the drive to succeed and, with the proper supports, will be able to do so in their core curriculum. These students are hard workers whose families lack the funds to provide our classroom with these essentials to allow for collaborative group learning.
As fourth-grade students, they need to succeed in their state testing, preparing them for fifth grade and beyond.
My kiddos are excited to learn new things embrace the many opportunities presented to them in the American education system.
My Project
As a 4th grade teacher, my students often come to my class lacking knowledge of their basic reading skills. In 4th grade, students are expected to learn many new reading skills since a majority of my students are ELL {English Language Learners} that are lacking the basic skills they need to know as 4th graders.
Power Pens put the power in the hands of students.
These pens and cards help students to practice those basic reading skills during independent work time. When my students know their basic reading skills, we get to dig a little deeper and not worry so much about those basic skills. It's a WIN-WIN for everyone!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
