Help me give my students at both schools the joy of reading! I can’t wait to see their faces as they fall in love with all of our favorite characters and get lost in the joys of reading!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am an elementary librarian at two different inner city Pre-K - 5 schools. There is nothing better than watching my students fall in love with new characters and authors and get swept away in the fictitious worlds those characters inhabit! Books also give them the ability to study real life far beyond our city limits without ever venturing past the walls of our small school community! My students joyfully enter the library excited to see what new books have come in, clamoring to read the next installment in their favorite series, from their favorite author or often hungry to find something new they love! There is nothing more rewarding than helping a child find the perfect-for-them book and in turning a non-avid reader into a huge fan!
My Project
There is no better way to become a better reader than to practice, practice, practice! The best way to get children to read is to help them discover characters, adventures, and literature that they truly enjoy!! There is nothing more rewarding than watching students fall in love with the art of reading and all of the benefits that reading has to offer...be it meeting a new literary friend, traveling to a new place, or discovering a new fact or tidbit of information! Help me encourage my pre-k - 5th grade students to read by helping them find the adventure and joy of exciting new books!
