I have a very diverse and amazing group of students. They are excited to learn new things and eager to experience kindergarten in all its glory. This eagerness and excitement shows on their faces as they look at books and find letters and sight words that they are learning, as they compare the tastes of different colors of apples and make graphs to determine which color apple is the class's favorite, and use newly learned shapes to make shape monsters. They love learning about everything they can.
These students started kindergarten during a national pandemic and have had little to no chance to explore the world around them for the last year and a half.
Like most of the students at this school, many of them are from low income families. They have a lot to overcome, but their potential is limitless. With a great education, I know that they can do anything they set their minds to.
My deepest desire as their teacher is to help each of these amazing kids grow their love of learning and succeed in building a strong foundation for their educational future.
My Project
With this purchase, my students will be given the ability to make choices at our Listen to Reading station. A child being read to is a very important part of learning to read and when given choices, students are far more likely to be engaged and to succeed. Currently, we have one large tape/CD player with several headphone jacks for students to use at our Listen to Reading station. This means that the students all have to listen to the same book and they all have to sit around the tape/CD player during Listen to Reading.
Portable CD players and wireless headphones will allow each student to choose they book that they will be listening to.
In addition to students being able to choose their book, these materials will also allow students to choose where they will be listening to the book at. Instead of having to sit on the floor around one large piece of equipment, students can choose a comfy place to enjoy the book that they chose!
