The 40 at-risk 4 year-old students in my two half day classes are selected based on various background factors as well as a comprehensive language, motor and concept screening.
Children that show a potential delay in one or more area, in addition to other risk factors, are enrolled in 4K to give them the advantage of a year of school before the challenges of kindergarten.
We set many specific goals based on the screening data collected prior to enrollment, but my biggest and most important goal of 4K is to plant the seed of lifelong learning in the hearts of my children!
My Project
One of my big goals for children is to leave Pre-K with a solid foundation of writing strategies and letter knowledge. These materials will help children achieve success in both areas, as they trace and write letters of the alphabet and focus on printing their names.
My Pre-K children come to school each day excited and ready for new challenges, and one of my challenges is to keep their excitement alive, even during rote practice.
Children need lots of practice with a wide variety of materials to build the skill of writing letters and numbers, while maintaining interest and enthusiasm.
Name writing is a huge goal for Pre-K children. I am hopeful to gain these materials to help build this skill in my children and best prepare them for kindergarten!
