This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a wonderful school in D.C. that always sets and holds high expectations for them. As a special education teacher, I am typically working to have students make more than a year worth of growth each school year.
My students are multiple years below grade level in reading and math, and they are in need of intensive small group instruction.
This requires me to have a lot of different materials on hand every day. I need to provide my students with basic materials, along with books and math manipulatives so that they can feel cared for and have what they need to be successful in school.
My Project
I am requesting a lot of different storage bins to make sure that all materials in our classroom are easily accessible. This way we can put materials in a place, label them, and students can access them when needed. I am also requesting 3 different reading skills games. My small groups in reading typically consist of guided reading opportunities, so it would be really nice to be able to practice some of the skills we've been working on together in a fun game format! I think these opportunities would help to get student re-motivated to keep learning.
