My students like to find nice service to do for their community, this is one of the fun and loving ways they like to serve their community. They feel that making baby hats helps them give back to the new members of our urban community. We as a class like to involve school staff and students who have never knitted before and give them a fun new hobby. We like to help the newcomers who make the same amunt of effort we do, we all love to come together and talk about our day and how we were looking foward to our meeting. We have become little elders knitting together and making people smile.
Students in the Have a Hat Program will be donating their time after school to mentor other students and teach their newly learned skills of knitting and crocheting to each other.
"Give a Little, Take a Little" is a great explanation of how students share their skills, spread their knowledge, and donate their time to make hats for newborns.
Students are encouraged to give back to their community and meet their civic responsibility and continue this through life long learning. Volunteering their time is helpful to student self-worth and gives students an opportunity to share, meet, and speak with other high school students.
