This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At our computer centers, there are too many cords of various lengths to maneuver around. It looks like we have miles and miles of cord and wires above and below the tables. Students have gotten their shoes and chair legs caught up in this mess. This project is for resolving our cord chaos!

My students are at a Title I school in Texas.

They are in a 1st grade classroom where all subjects are taught. Ninety-seven percent of the students at this school are on free/reduced price lunch programs, and fifty-seven percent of the households they come from speak English and 42% speak Spanish. My 1st graders really enjoy using the computers in our classroom. Most of them don't have a computer at home, so being able to use one in our room is a real treat for them. There are lots of sites on the Internet which we use for phonics, reading and math activities.

My Project

We have so many cords connecting everything at our computer centers. There are 2 power cords for the PC and monitor and 5 more cords for the monitor, mouse, keyboard, headphones and Internet connection. In addition to little feet and chair legs getting caught amongst the cords, we can't vacuum these areas because of all the cord clutter. I have used rubber bands, pieces of wire and paper wrapped then taped around the cords but with the passage of time these things just come apart from being stepped, tugged, pushed and pulled on. At each of our five computer stations, we would like the following to reduce or organize our helter-skelter cords: a wireless keyboard/mouse combo and velcro straps to wrap cords.

We need donor friends to get the wireless keyboard/mouse combos and velcro straps.
