Girls Weights Brings Both Mental and Physical Health

Help me give my students weight room equipment to help them be successful and strong both mentally and physically.

My Students

I have seen a huge change in my my students mental health during the pandemic. There has been an increase in anxiety and depression over the last two years. I teach my students that through physical exercise, it can help combat anxiety and depression. I have seen my students get small strength gains in my weights and PE classes. With these strength gains it helps them mentally as well feel more confident, producing . They become more confident and stronger both mentally and physically.

During the pandemic we started an all girls weights class.

This is my absolute favorite class to teach. This class tends to be filled with girls who don't consider themselves athletes. I teach them through weight lifting that they are athletes. They might only be able to lift 5 pounds at the start, but through the class they get stronger and more confident. They also find ways to fight their depression and anxiety through moving their body. Through body movement the brain produces chemicals that naturally fight depression and anxiety. Many of my students don't know this until they come to my class.

My Project

I chose resistance bands as one of my items. This is an easy piece of equipment that I can teach my students to use in many different ways. They can take the information home and use these bands to do at-home workouts. It's an inexpensive tool that many of my students can afford to buy one themselves and use at home once I have taught them how to use it. This will help them get stronger, stay active and improve both physically and mentally. There is a huge connection between staying active and mental health.

Choosing to be active will help my students understand the correlation between mental and physical health.

Another piece of equipment I chose to put in my request was kettlebells. This is another piece of equipment that can be used in so many different ways. It will allow my students new ideas on how to stay active.
