Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching STEAM in a middle school where my students are eager to express themselves is imperative. The school is located in a high poverty location. Most of my students come from single working parent homes that will never have an opportunity to visit art museums. My students do not have and cannot afford the materials to produce great hands on projects. Even though my students are not living or attending a school in the best area they are eager to learn and let their creative juices flow freely. These students lack avenues to express themselves in a positive way.
For most of my students being able to create something is a mental escape from the rough reality they live in, there is a sense of failure and also great accomplishment when they see the beauty in what they are able to make on their own.
Oh the different things they will create and the colors that will brighten their days.
My Project
My students are in need of tools to create and demonstrate their STEAM projects. My students will be engineering different projects and for this they need tools that can help them build. The drill and the heavy duty glue gun can help with connecting parts together. The scissors for cutting out parts that they might need. The projector and screen is for my students to be able to present to their classmates what they have accomplished.
My students will be able to learn a lot more if they have tools that can allow them to make their inventions.
These materials will facilitate STEAM projects and will allow my students to be creators. My students will not only be able to construct but design ramps and race cars. They will learn to use different tools for building but will also be taught about responsibility and proper use.
