Hello, Hola, xin chào, Hallå, سلام, Kamusta, Olá, ہیلو, and welcome to this project to encourage engineering for girls in my class of energetic and enthusiastic students who represent many languages.
These loving children attend a high poverty, inland school in a state that is number one in prison spending and number forty one in education spending.
Though we have neither counselors nor teachers for music, art, P.E., the library, or computers, our deserving students benefit from an attentive, caring staff, and a "village" of generous supporters. We hope you will join us.
My Project
Though all students would benefit from the materials requested, this project directs its aim at girls who generally prize communication, storytelling, imaginative play, and relationships. I want these girls at their young age to embed memories of engineering so powerful that these memories will propel them into STEM careers. I've noticed that at the building center, my girls often begin by creating and planning narratives while the boys grab blocks to start building willy-nilly. Because of this tendency for unequal distribution, my girls need abundant access to the materials such as the requested Magformers, LEGO kits, and pattern puzzles, to be stored in plastic boxes and labeled with double stick tape. On lap desks conveniently placed at the center, the girls can efficiently record their stories to further embed these memories. When they are ready to toot their horns, they'll do it with the pBuzz student instrument.
Thank you for reading this proposal for Magformers, LEGO kits, pattern puzzles, and other supplies, and if funded, please join us as we document an afternoon of creative, constructive play where girls are inspired to take the lead.
