Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Women are still underrepresented in the technology field in the twenty-first century. Through the Girls Who Code organization, we are working with teenage girls who have a passion for coding and plan on pursuing computer science after they graduate high school.
Robert Morgan Educational Center is home to the Pirates.
We have a range of talented young women who are eager to learn as much about computer science as they can. Unfortunately, many of our students cannot afford their own technological devices to practice their coding skills. By helping to fund our project, you will allow students to see their apps come to life in the palm of their hands.
My Project
The Samsung Galaxy tablets will be used to create applications using the MIT App inventor software. By using a building block technique through the software, students will be able to create intricate apps that could change our future and help communities in need. The inventor software creates apps that can be easily downloaded, but because of market restrictions, apps created cannot be seen on devices that run on Apple or Windows products. The Android platform enables the students to see their apps come to life and tweak any issues prior to sharing them with others.
Without the Samsung tablets, my students will not be able to fully hone their coding skills.
I want to see more women dominate the tech field. That idea starts in classrooms. That mission begins at the hands of young adults ready to make a change. Help my girls become computer science pros. Help them change our world.
