This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students attend a Title I school site with a diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and extracurricular background. As a science teacher, the best attributes of my students is that they show constant growth and potential as they develop their skills in the sciences and ability to collaborate effectively with one another. This is best seen when I allow the students to provide constructive feedback for what they want from their classroom, methods for how they should strategically monitor their learning, and when they engage mentally and physically with the content when we work on scientific investigations and demonstrations. I know most of them have told me they are interested in being community leaders and engineers, so I hope the world keeps feeding their goals for the future.

My Project

The iPad mini will be used as a important tool in allowing the school's Girls Build LA team to learn technology skills and help maintain visual evidence and media projects for their campaign. The focus of the project is to measurably increase classmate interest in college and STEM education between December 2016 to May 2017. The students will host meetings, plan events, design college/STEM workshops, and co-host a STEM Family night at their school. The project also requires maintaining safe social media accounts that the iPad would be used best for. The project will allow the students model leadership and practice responsibility.
