This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Reading is taken for granted once we have become adults, but the process of reading is a challenge for my Kindergarten students. By seeing enlarged print on the board, students will begin to learn the process of tracking words with their fingers;especially going from left to right and top to bottom.

I have the honor of teaching 25 lovely Kindergarten students this year.

My students attend a charter school in Los Angeles, California. The majority of the students come from a very low-socioeconomic background. A high percentage of the students are learning English. Much of my instruction needs to be presented in a visual manner. Although my passion is teaching, many of the times it is a challenge due to the lack of resources of the school. Without such vital resources, I only wish I could provide them with everything they need in order to have a successful, high-quality education that they all deserve.

My Project

Without an assistant to help me educate, my students have been deprived of the ability to participate in small reading groups. This amazing document camera and projector will surpass the need to have small reading groups. The document camera will allow the students to see me tracking each word from left to right and top to bottom. I will be able to model how to properly decode a word they do not know. EVERYONE will be able to see me point to a letter (make the sound), point to another letter (make the sound), and point to the last letter (make the sound) and form the word. This is,of course, instead of each student doing this process by himself/herself and have an overwhelming feeling of distress when looking at the word that they cannot decode. This advanced technology will facilitate the students' ability to learn how to read.

It is of utmost importance that this project get funded for my struggling English Learners.

This project will not only begin the process of learning how to read, but it will also captivate their minds by seeing books, pictures, and words in a "gigantic" form. Thus, making the starting stages of reading fun and exciting. Thank you for all your support.
