My Students

If you step foot into my classroom, you would see a class of student-sponges eager to learn. They are curious, fun-loving, quick to laugh, with just a little dose of sass. They enjoy a good debate and thrive on a good challenge. They attack difficult material with a vigor I haven't seen in many of the buildings in which I have taught. They constantly make me laugh and inspire me every day with their grit and willingness to challenge themselves.

My Project

I want my students to engage deeply and meaningfully with the texts we are studying in class. Many of my students cannot garner access to materials like highlighters and annotation tools unless we provide them.

With these tools my students will be able to note and notice important quotes, themes, and patterns in the texts with which they engage.

I will demonstrate how to mark up a text and to decipher how to allow certain things to sing from the text. Students will then apply these patterns and skills to the texts they choose. I am hoping this skill will help them as they move into college and career to pull out the deeper meaning of a text innately.
