Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from Trenton, New Jersey and have faced many adversities, even before the pandemic. Many of my students cared for siblings as if they were their own children, often during virtual class time, some have had parent/s and other family members contract Covid-19, while others have lost family members to the illness. Financial instability is also prominent among my student population. Many do not have enough to eat from day to day.
Through this difficult time of uncertainty, I admire how majority of my students give their best effort to stay focus and invest in their education by attending classes and completing the work.
I would like to continue to motivate and support and my students with small care gifts such as various types of gifts cards which will ensure that they are receiving proper nourishments.
My Project
I am requesting PBIS rewards for students in order to motivate students academically. Unfortunately, there is no money in our school budget to purchase these items, so we rely heavily on donated items. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success.
Schools that have implemented school-wide PBIS have reported improved school climate, improved student achievement, reduced suspension and referral rates, increased attendance, and increased family participation.
A donation to this project will help keep our students engaged and reinforce positive behaviors.
