My Students

At my school, our mission statement is to inspire our students to Serve, Lead, and Grow through exploration, critical thinking, and grit. My second grade students are shining examples of curious thinkers, future leaders, and are exuberantly chatty and boisterous. They surprise me daily with their joy and positivity from the moment they walk in the door.

I have students who give each other pep talks, remind each other to think positive, cheer successes and yep, even during these times of social distancing, will give a hug when they feel it's needed.

They are diverse group of learners, some receiving resource support, ELL, and speech services. They are fully aware that no matter where they are in their learning, they are in control of their growth and they strive to make gains daily. They make up our classroom community and I love how they hold each other accountable as they work to set and then meet their goals.

My Project

These books are to extend the reach of the classroom into my students' homes this Christmas. Each book was chosen based upon each child's interest and reading level, and is for their personal use of having a book of their own at home. Many of my students have requested to borrow books from the classroom library to take home and they are so responsible in making sure to take good care of them and to return them. Many of them are in positions where purchasing a book is a luxury and nothing beats the joy of having a book of their own that is all theirs to keep!
