Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As the year draws to an end, my students will be preparing for their regents exams! In order to adequately prepare them for the test that will be used to assess their college readiness we are in need of some classroom supplies.
Giving them colored pencils and pens will enable them to first simulate exam conditions, which is essential for their success.
Additionally, they will be able to edit their own work by identifying and underlining any errors. In this manner, they can identify their typical errors and avoid making them again when they review or practice during homework. The review material will also allow for both differentiation for students struggling and students that need more of a push then others.
Finally, because we are concentrating on math vocabulary right now, they require buzzers. Even though some students who struggle with English may find this topic rather boring and intimidating, I make an effort to make it enjoyable. I assign games to them and encourage teamwork in deciphering the meaning of the words. They enjoy playing a parody of the well-known Family Feud game! To truly get them into the mindset and into the game, we need the buttons. Furthermore, who doesn't enjoy slamming their hands against large buttons?
