My Students

Shouldn't overhead projectors and transparencies be things of the past? Well, unfortunately, this is the technology that my students and I are still using in my classroom today.

I am extremely fortunate to be able to teach in a culturally and linguistically diverse preK-8th grade public school in Chicago.

The school provides free and reduced lunches to more than 70% of the students. Keeping up with technology is something that the school needs help with and this is where you come in! My students are learners of every type: auditory, kinesthetic, and visual. Providing as much opportunity for students to engage in various types of learning experiences is crucial to their growth, development, and school success. Many of my students depend on visual aids to grasp concepts and to make the abstract more concrete, which makes an LCD projector a perfect (and much needed) fit for our classroom.

My Project

Technology is dynamic and constantly moving forward, and there are hundreds of resources that can be tapped into with an LCD projector and computer together. The technology that is available in my classroom, however, does not reflect the progress and innovation of the "outside" world. Having an LCD projector would be a huge step in the right direction. Science is a favorite subject among many of my students and being able to access related content on the Internet and video will serve to solidify scientific ideas and concepts that will only help students' love of science and discovery continue to grow. This same level of interaction is easily applicable to all other subjects including reading, writing, math, and social studies. It is important also for me to reduce waste, and an LCD projector will help to do just that. Being able to project things on a screen that all of the students can see simultaneously will save a great deal of paper and ink.

Teaching and learning in my classroom will continue with or without an LCD projector; however, the benefits of having one will greatly impact the depth and degree to which this teaching and learning may be able to take place.

Thank you so much for helping to make this happen!
