My Students

Our 2nd grade science class is focused around hands-on and engaging activities to make learning more exciting.

This project will reach 80 second grade students that I have the opportunity to work with every day.

My students are learning how to be responsible, respectful, and kind citizens. We are in need of 2 iPad minis to use in math centers and for 'digital storytelling' with science concepts. Our school is striving for new and innovative techniques using technology to gain student success. These iPads will increase my students' engagement and excitement about their learning. I was recently given one iPad for my classroom. Even some of the students who have been struggling and disconnect themselves from regular lessons began engaging in the content. When I told them I would ask donors for two more iPads they were so excited about the possibilities in our classroom.

My Project

During math centers, students will use these iPads to strengthen their math skills and jump start the mind for learning. Students will become more engaged and accountable during science lessons by using 'digital storytelling' to act out their science concepts instead of just writing them down. They will work collaboratively to improve their academic skills. Students that have a difficult time putting their ideas into words will benefit using iPads.

As a 2nd grade science and math teacher I am searching for new ways to bring in cross-content activities into my lessons.

Technology is increasingly popular in these students' lives and incorporating them into our lessons help our students become more engaged in the topic. The use of this technology prepares students for real-world application and makes learning more interactive for the students and the teacher.
