This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project is to help low income students at an alternative high school be incentivized to come to school. Statistics show that students who have good attendance do better in school. The goal is to help our students increase their attendance. Our students have history of being chronically absent and failing academically. With our students history a traditional high school isn't a successful setting for them. Our school is their last chance to finish and earn their high school diploma. With helping our students learn the importance of attendance will help them in future careers.
In order to make sure the incentives were something students would like, I sent out a survey asking students what things they would enjoy.
Many responses were things that they could have in their room lighting, blue tooth speakers, places to put snack, battery packs are just a few examples. With that in mind I asked a smaller sample of students to help me pick out a few items to add for the monthly attendance drawings. With the direction given by the student body and my smaller sample group I was able to find items that would help motivate my students to improve attendance at out school.
