This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach seventh and eighth grade Language Arts to Special Education students. Many of my students are high energy and struggle with reading. They need activities that engage them and leave them wanting to be involved more. I find that high interest current events engage the students while teaching them about the world that we live in. Many of my students are not able to pay for their own resources because of the poverty level. My school is a title I high needs school with 100% of the students recieving free or reduced lunches.
My Project
The use of Scholastic Actions magazines in my classroom will enhance several areas of skills needed to become an effective reader. These magazines are especially valuable to struggling readers and those that have reading disabilities. The exciting nonfiction articles that are presented at multiple levels will inspire my students to continue reading. The articles meet the current academic standards for the state of Pennsylvania. The lessons help differentiate instruction to various skill levels across the classroom. With this subscription to Scholastic Magazine, the class will also have access to related videos and other online materials. These materials will highly benefit all of my students.
