This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project is created and asked for with my next group of scholars in mind. Next year will be the first year I will be teaching science in a while as our fifth grade team has been departmentalized for two years, but we are switching back to self contained next year. After two years of teaching math and social studies without having to worry about science, I am making myself familiar with the science standards and found that food webs is one of our first, if not the first unit we will be studying. The first thing that came to my mind for this until was that I wanted my students to dissect owl pellets sometime in the middle of the unit. I remember doing this when I was in school, and as weird as it sounds, I loved it! I want to allow my students that same opportunity to see first hand how the food web works.

While looking around Amazon for other items that I could tie into the food web unit, I found the Ecosystem card games.

After watching a how-to-play video on YouTube, I quickly added this to my list of resources and activities for next year as well. The game is quick and I like how there are different versions, a meadow/forest one, a coral reef, and a savanna so my students can learn not only about the food web, but the different ecosystems and habitats as well.
