This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom has 29 5th grade students, who are eager to learn science! The class is made up of students with many different abilities, from special education needs to gifted and talented needs. The students come from different backgrounds, including different language experiences and abilities, access to books and libraries, and access to different experiences. The students live in an area of high poverty and school is a safe place for them as well as a place for learning. Giving the students hands-on experiences with science will increase their learning.

My Project

Science can be one of the most engaging areas of learning. Students naturally gravitate towards science when given the opportunity to explore it. This project would help get science materials into the hands of 5th grade students. The students would be able to use the safety goggles, thermometers, test tubes, and scales to experience science concepts through science experiments.

Students need to be able to learn about, they need to explore the different areas and types of science; the science boxes would help the student explore many different kinds of science.

Literacy would be brought into the lessons with the science books, creating a more complete learning experience.

5th grade is a very important science year for my students as they are tested through the high-stakes testing in science for the first time. My students need the opportunity to not only learn about science, but to experience science!
