My students need materials that we lost like paper, markers and books in order to complete various writing projects. Having a printer will help students bring their creations alive as they print projects done via Word/online.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
These young scholars are energetic and excited to be in 1st grade. I believe that 1st grade is an essential point in a student’s academic path due to the skills that students obtain through the year. Students should learn in an environment that is safe and fun which will help the students to develop that love of learning.
On “Meet the Teacher” night, energetic and playful students ran up to the rail to meet me, their first grade teacher.
They were excited to start another school year and to see their friends from Kindergarten. Parents would walk behind their children carrying school supplies –like notebooks, markers, pencils, and crayons- that they have brought for their child and were eager to ask questions about the grade, my expectations, and other important information. They also asked about the bilingual program their child was going to receive with me. Most of the students lived around the community- specifically the trailer park community near the school.
My Project
Our school got affected greatly by Harvey, a storm that hit across Texas in late August. It was an unpleasant surprise and although it brought Houston together, a lot of the school were negatively affected like mine. The school was flooded near the ceiling and that means we lost a large quantity of resources for the students. Books are in great need since a lot of the classroom libraries were destroyed by the flood. Materials like pencils, crayons, markers, and even a printer will be greatly needed.
Students will benefit from these books by being great additions to the new classroom library!
Every student should be in an environment that is rich in literature and with wonderful stories. Materials like pencils, markers, and social/emotional learning materials will benefit students as they return to the classroom. These will help my students create writing project like creating their own books using mentor texts we use in class. A printer will be helpful for when my students print projects they do in using Word/online as they get familiar with using technology. We have a long way to go but our hope and resilience will add to our Bulldog's spirit!
