This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are eager to learn and "get their hands dirty". Most of the students that I teach do not have art supplies at home. I have students who are constantly asking to borrow crayons or even pencils, so they can draw at home.
The students I teach have never been exposed to art and are hungry for it.
I only have 45 minutes a week with each class and I strive to expose them to everything I can think of. I want them to touch and use every art supply that I can get my hands on.
My Project
The supplies that I am asking for are things that will enable my students to be fully engaged in their artwork. They will learn how to sculpt faces. That in itself is exciting! They will also get to use different types of watercolors on paper that was made for watercolor. Watercolor paper is expensive and is not usually available in an elementary school!
I am looking to open up a new world to my students.
These supplies will give them opportunities not available without help. This will let them get their hands and minds involved in their own creations. That is exciting in so many ways!
